About Sheriff Chris Swanson
Sheriff Swanson is third generation law enforcement with thirty two years of experience in the field. He has served as the Sheriff of Genesee County – the 5th largest Sheriff’s Office in the State and the home to Flint– since 2019. While Sheriff, Chris has developed several groundbreaking initiatives, including an educational program called I.G.N.I.T.E. and his human trafficking and sexual assault program G.H.O.S.T. The community impact success of both of these programs is being replicated by other law enforcement agencies around the country and globe.
In 2020, Sheriff Swanson and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office garnered international attention when, in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, they peacefully brought together protesters and law enforcement and walked in unity. The actions of that day – and all the days that followed – inspires the work of Unity In Action PAC. Unity In Action aims to protect, serve, and unify all Michiganders by showing up and doing the work.
Sheriff Swanson is a five-time Ironman finisher and he holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan. He is the proud parent of two grown sons and lives in Genesee County with his wife of thirty years, Jamie, a Michigan State alumna.
